LIBERALIZED ROAD FREIGHT TRANSPORTATION REGIME BETWEEN MOLDOVA AND THE EU IS EXTENDED UNTIL MARCH 31, 2027

The liberalized road freight transport regime between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union (EU) is extended until March 31, 2027.

According to the Infotag news agency, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development announced this, noting that the extension was the topic of the third meeting of the EU-Moldova High-Level Dialogue on Transport, which took place in Brussels.

The meeting praised Moldova’s progress in modernizing the industry, in particular, aligning national legislation with European norms and standards.

A Moldovan delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea, discussed the development of road, rail, air, and maritime transport with representatives of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE), led by Magda Kopczyсska.

The meeting participants discussed strategic projects in the railway sector, in particular the electrification of the Iași-Ungheni railway section, as well as work on the Cantemir-Fălciu section.

“This dialogue confirms that the EU remains a strategic partner for the Republic of Moldova in modernizing transport infrastructure and integrating it into European transport networks,” the ministry said in a statement.

The meeting also highlighted positive developments such as the growth in passenger traffic at Chisinau Airport, which exceeded 6 million passengers in 2025 (an increase of 47%), and Moldova’s progress in aligning its national legislation with EU law. Currently, 108 documents are under development, and 53 important EU documents have already been implemented.
