Texas Tech Basketball returns to the Top 10 for the first time since October

Grant McCasland and the Red Raiders debuted at 10th in the initial ranking of the AP Poll back on October 3rd, 2025. By week two, they’d dropped to 15th after a loss to Illinois. Ever since, Texas Tech has been fighting to get back to their original ranking.

On the January 26th ranking, the Red Raiders had climbed to 11th. Since that poll, the Red Raiders have dropped to 16th twice before gaining back ground. They dropped to 16th once again last week but after wins over Cincinnati and Iowa State Texas Tech has finally climbed back into the top 10, at 10th.

Arizona is also back to receiving first place votes, after being the unanimous number one team before losing to Kansas and the Red Raiders. They are currently behind Duke, who also lost to Texas Tech, and only Duke, who lost to Texas Tech.

Iowa State and Houston are next in the rankings at six, sehhhven. I’m sorry for that.

Kansas comes in at 14th after beating Houston and losing to Arizona this week. BYU has fallen out of the rankings, but is the leading vote getter just outside the Top 25. UCF and TCU are also receiving votes.

The Red Raiders are now tied with Houston in second place of the Big 12 Standings behind Arizona. The Wildcats are 14-2, while Texas Tech and Houston are two games back at 12-4. Iowa State and Kansas are a game behind them at 11-5. Even further behind are the receiving vote teams at 9-7 with TCU and UCF.

The biggest surprise has been BYU faltering down the stretch and only mustering an 8-8 Big 12 record, which ties them with Cincinnati and West Virginia.
