Norway’s VARD has delivered the seismic source vessel Sanco Sailor to compatriot Sanco Shipping, marking the completion of an extensive conversion project that transformed the vessel from a seismic research ship into a modern seismic source vessel.
Sanco Shipping purchased the vessel, then operating as PGS Apollo, in July 2025. The 2010‑built, 106.6m‑long ship sailed directly to Vard Langsten and the conversion process began immediately after the acquisition.
The vessel arrived at the yard in August 2025, where work began on a wide‑ranging upgrade program.
The conversion included major structural modifications, upgrades to the existing seismic equipment, and the installation of a DP2 dynamic positioning system to enhance operational capability.
These efforts were part of a comprehensive modernisation plan aimed at preparing the vessel for its new operational profile.
VARD reported on 16 February 2026 that Sanco Sailor had been formally delivered following the successful completion of sea trials.
The yard emphasised that the project required coordinated teamwork, structured execution, and high technical competence across the organization, supported by close collaboration between Vard Langsten and Sanco Shipping throughout all phases of the work.
According to the yard, the delivery demonstrates the strong expertise and capabilities of the Vard Langsten facility.
