Murray Automotive Group marked its 100‑year milestone with a major donation to support health care in Estevan, contributing a combined $150,000 to the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation through Murray GM Estevan and dealer principals Brad and Colette Pierson.
“The Murray Automotive Group that is based out of Winnipeg now but started in Souris a hundred years ago and morphed into Brandon and other different locations and now is roughly 30 stores to 32 stores deep, is celebrating its hundred years,” Brad Pierson said. He noted the business remains “privately owned by four brothers that are just fantastic people for me and a whole bunch of other operators to be partnered with.”
The donation was made through Murray Cares, the company’s long‑running community investment program. “They’ve been setting aside money, and they’ve always given the opportunity for dealers to contribute to, community projects and that kind of thing,” Pierson said. “They just put more of an asterisk on it this year with going along with a hundred-year celebration.”
Pierson said he and his wife Colette were grateful for the opportunity to direct funds locally. “It’s just a great opportunity for Colette and I and Murray GM Estevan to give back to the community,” he said. “They come right behind us as the Murray Automotive Group and contribute as well.”
“We wanted to give to something that affects everyone… Estevan is a hub for our medical community.”
The Piersons’ chose the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation because of the hospital’s broad impact. “We wanted to give to something that affects everyone, and not only our community, but our surrounding communities,” Pierson said. “Estevan is a bit of a — not a bit, a hub for our medical community.”
Foundation executive director Lori Jarvis said the gift reflects the Piersons’ long‑standing support. “We were just thrilled. We’re thrilled to be a part of their continued support,” she said. “It’s something that we just really wanted to celebrate because they deserve the recognition and the gratefulness.”
While the specific project the funds will support has not yet been determined, Jarvis said the needs are constant. “Our list is endless,” she said. “Unless they’re donating to a specific… area of the hospital, it goes to where it’s needed most.”
Pierson said giving back is a value rooted in his own upbringing. “I grew up in this community in a family‑owned business that wanted to give back,” he said. “We benefit from a lot of loyal customers, and we feel it’s important to give back.”
