This Day in Michigan History: First Detroit Automobile Show opens its doors

DETROIT, Mich. (WILX) – On Feb. 27, 1902, Detroit put its foot on the proverbial gas pedal.

The first Detroit Automobile Show roared into life at the Light Guard Armory.

It was organized by the Detroit Auto Dealers Association, a group of industry pioneers and enthusiasts.

The event launched the motor city into the future 124 years ago when crowds marveled at the “horseless carriages.”
