Thursday’s college basketball: Indiana Tech men win WHAC tourney opener

Jaxson Fugate had a double-double with 30 points and 12 rebounds as the Indiana Tech men defeated Cornerstone 97-85 at the Schaefer Center to advance to the WHAC Tournament semifinals.

Indiana Tech (22-6) jumped out to a 15-9 lead four minutes in before Cornerstone answered with an offensive barrage to take a 27-20 lead halfway through the first half.

Indiana Tech answered with a 19-0 run to take a 39-27 lead. The Warriors led 54-37 at the half.

The Warriors led by as many as 21 to open the second half, but Cornerstone fought back, cutting the lead to seven with 7:03 remaining.

It was still a seven-point game with five minutes remaining, but a 9-0 run put Indiana Tech ahead 94-78.

Logan Beaston added 22 points, and Steele Brasfield added 17 points and nine rebounds for the Warriors.

Indiana Tech will play host to No. 3 seed Rochester Christian at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Women

NOTRE DAME 72 SYRACUSE 62: In South Bend, Hannah Hidalgo scored a game-high 27 points to go along with eight rebounds, seven assists and seven steals to lead the Irish. The guard has now scored 25 or more points in three straight games.

Cassandre Prosper had 16 points to go along with seven rebounds, two assists and a block. Malaya Cowles also finished in double figures, scoring 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field.

The victory improves Notre Dame’s record to 19-9 and 11-6 in ACC play. Notre Dame finishes with a record of 14-2 at home in regular-season play.
