Jharkhand fire: Flammable cargo crash leaves 4 trucks charred

A major fire incident was reported in Jharkhand’s Dumka district after a vehicle transporting flammable materials was hit from behind by another vehicle, triggering a blaze that engulfed at least four trucks.

Dumka Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Kaushal Kumar said that the collision has resulted in casualties, but the exact number is yet to be confirmed. A person who was sleeping inside one of the vehicles sustained severe burns, and so did one of the drivers of another truck. They were immediately rushed to hospital for treatment.

Fire tenders and administrative teams were immediately deployed to the site. After sustained firefighting efforts, the blaze was brought under control. Authorities have kept additional emergency vehicles on standby as a precaution, fearing that remnants of the flammable material could reignite.

“At present, the situation is under control, and the fires have been extinguished,” the SDO said, adding that they are maintaining vigilance to prevent any further spread.

Further details regarding the number of injured and the extent of losses are awaited as the investigation continues.
