Ingalls Shipbuilding workers vote to accept contract with 18% raise

PASCAGOULA, Miss. (WLOX) – Members of the Pascagoula Metal Trades Council have voted to accept Ingalls Shipbuilding’s latest contract offer, giving thousands of workers an immediate 18% raise.

Ingalls employs 11,000 workers and generates $15 million per week in payroll, making it one of the driving forces in the local economy.

Workers, local businesses respond

Local businesses said they have already seen Ingalls employees come in and cite the raise as the reason for their visit. Several employees told WLOX they plan to use the additional income to help offset the rising cost of living.

Tim Petitjean, an Ingalls employee, said the raise will have a direct impact on his family.

“It’s going to help me raise my kids and help me build a house that I’m in the process of,” Petitjean said. “You don’t have to work as much overtime to make the same amount of money.”

Other union votes pending

Other union groups are scheduled to vote on the offer later this week and into next week.
