Nepal Police Launches High-Tech AI and Advanced Analytics Cell to Modernize Crime Investigation

Kathmandu. The Nepal Police has launched a high-tech Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Analytics Cell at its headquarters in Naxal with the objective of making crime investigation and law and order management technology-friendly. Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal inaugurated this new cell on Monday during a special program.

Following the inauguration, Home Minister Aryal also received detailed information about the cell’s operational procedures, its functions, and its utility in security management. The program was attended by Home Secretary Rajkumar Shrestha, Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki, and Inspector General of Armed Police Raju Aryal, among other high-ranking security officials.

In the current era, rising cybercrime, organized criminal networks, financial fraud, and digital campaigns spreading social instability have become major challenges for security agencies. As traditional investigation systems are no longer sufficient in such a scenario, the police have established this cell to utilize cutting-edge technologies such as Generative AI, Machine Learning, and Automation.

It aims to develop a system that not only analyzes information but also provides alerts before a crime occurs. Its primary objective is to strengthen the collection of digital evidence through the institutional use of artificial intelligence.

Even before this cell became fully operational, the Nepal Police has achieved significant success through its use. The police have initiated legal action after taking five individuals involved in spreading false and misleading information through social media into custody from Banke, Kanchanpur, Sunsari, Salyan, and Dang. This confirms that criminals can be identified quickly and effectively through the use of technology.

Central Police Spokesperson Deputy Inspector General of Police Abi Narayan Kafle urged citizens to remain vigilant while using social media. He warned that the police would bring anyone spreading confusion in society through the misuse of technology under the legal framework and called on everyone to abide by the law and demonstrate good citizenship.
