Yuma High School automotive students Miguel Linares and Alexander West placed first at the Universal Technical Institute auto competition on Jan. 24 in Avondale, earning them each a $10,000 scholarship to be used in any area of study at UTI.
Linares and West competed as a team in the Top Tech competition, which included stations where they completed different automotive tasks such as measuring components with precision tools, an electrical diagnostic station where a circuit had malfunctions and they had to diagnose it, a parts identification table with a variety of car parts, brake stations where they had to inspect and measure brake parts, and a knowledge test.
