SEOUL, Feb. 12 (Yonhap) — HD Hyundai Co., South Korea’s leading shipbuilding conglomerate, said Thursday its net profit for 2025 nearly doubled from a year earlier thanks to a recovery in the shipbuilding sector and improved profitability across key affiliates.

The company’s annual net profit for last year totaled 3.67 trillion won (US$2.6 billion), up 90.4 percent from a year earlier, on a consolidated basis, HD Hyundai said in a regulatory filing.

Operating profit also doubled to 6.09 trillion won, while sales gained 5.2 percent to 71.25 trillion won. Both operating profit and sales marked the highest levels in the company’s history.

HD Hyundai attributed its improved bottom line to the performance of its shipbuilding and offshore segments. HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co. posted 3.9 trillion won in annual operating profit, up 172.3 percent, helped by high-value vessel orders.

HD Hyundai Marine Solution, its marine service affiliate, reported an operating profit of 350.1 billion won, up 28.9 percent from a year ago, backed by growth in its ship parts and after-market services.

For the fourth quarter, the company reported a net profit of 1.42 trillion won, up 83.4 percent from the previous year. Operating profit totaled 1.97 trillion won, compared with 878.2 billion won, while sales gained 9.6 percent on-year to 18.73 trillion won.

An HD Hyundai official said the company will maintain a profitability-centered management strategy and focus on high-margin orders and production efficiency in its shipbuilding and power equipment businesses.
