BUTTE, Mont. — It was a celebratory night on the hardwood of Kelvin Sampson Court for the Montana Tech Orediggers, as they earned blowout wins over the Bismarck State Mystics.
On the women’s side, the No. 13 Orediggers (18-4 overall, 14-4 Frontier) used a total team effort to come away with a 93-60 win.
All 12 players to appear scored for Montana Tech, while only 8 players made the trip to Butte for the Mystics.
Tech had a 21-8 advantage in assists, a 59-32 edge on the boards, and dominated points in the paint by a 44-20 margin.
Senior Hadley Humpherys led the way with 20 points, 8 assists, and 3 rebounds. Fellow senior Liv Wangerin had a double-double of 18 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 assists. Sophomore Brooke Badovinac had 11 points, 3 rebounds, an assist, 2 steals, and 2 blocks, while Halle Haber had 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists.
Kennedy Stormer had a game-high 22 points for the Mystics, as well as 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Piper Harris poured in 9 points.
The Mystics shot just 6-35 from three through the first 30 minutes, while Tech shot 8-21 from distance for the game.
With the victory, Tech matches their season win total from 2024-25.
In the men’s game, the No. 20 Orediggers (18-6, 12-6) overcame a sluggish start to take down the Mystics (1-23, 1-17), 98-70.
All 16 available players for Montana Tech saw game action. Freshman Asher Williams and junior Karson Peffer both led the scoring, with 16 points apiece. Redshirt freshman Eli Quinn came off the bench to add 13 points, while senior Hayden Diekhans had 10 points and 7 assists.
Hellgate grad Easton Sant, in his first action of the season, was superb off the bench, with 8 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds.
Junior Rhett Reynolds had 4 blocks.
Jah Gulley led Bismarck State with 16 points, while Carter Zeller and Alex Proctor had 15 each.
Like the women’s team, the Mystic men only had eight players make the trip to the Treasure State. That showed on the stat sheet, as the Orediggers had a 56-9 edge in bench points.
Tech shot 54% from the floor and held the Mystics to just 34% shooting.
Montana Tech returns to action next week for their final two regular season home games, with contests against Bellevue (Neb.) on Friday and Dakota State on Saturday. The women’s games will begin at 5 p.m., with the men’s contests slated for 7 p.m.
