Fast start sends No. 14 Seton Hall Prep past Payne Tech in ECT – Boys basketball recap

Anthony Gonzalez scored nine of his team-high 14 points in the first quarter, and also added five rebounds as top-seeded Seton Hall Prep, No. 14 in the NJ.com Top 20, rolled to a 76-39 victory over eighth-seeded Payne Tech in the 79th Essex County Tournmaent quarterfinals at Frank J. Tracey Gymnasium in West Orange.

Infinite Sincere-Amen Ra added 10 points in a 28-14 first quarter for Seton Hall Prep (13-6).

Sincere-Amen Ra, a sophomore, finished with 13 points and five assists in the win. Daniel Beazer added 14 points, six rebounds and three steals off the bench.

Seton Hall Prep, the defending ECT champion, plays fourth-seeded and No. 13 Shabazz in the semifinals on Saturday at West Orange High School.

Payne Tech (7-11), an ECT finalist a year ago, was led by Gerald Edwell’s 15 points and 11 rebounds.
