CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – A donation drive kicked off Saturday, February 7, ahead of the University of Virginia men’s basketball game against Syracuse, aiming to support students in Charlottesville City Schools.
The effort brought together Flow Automotive, UVA Athletics, and the Chris Long Foundation through the foundation’s EdZone initiative. Volunteers collected hygiene products and winter essentials for local children before tip-off.
Donations were gathered outside John Paul Jones Arena, where organizers said the drive helps remove basic needs as barriers to learning for students in the community.
“There are a lot of kids in this area who are in need of something as simple as toothpaste and a winter jacket,” said Joe Reed, a Chris Long Foundation ambassador. “So, we’re in a situation where we can give back and make sure those kids have something throughout the winter.”
Organizers say the donation drive will continue throughout the month of February at Flow Automotive dealerships across the area. Items collected will later be distributed directly to students in Charlottesville City Schools.
