In an effort to promote the facilitation of trade, the Guyana Customshouse Brokers & Clerks Association met recently with the Customs, Excise & Trade Administra-tion to address concerns regarding the timely clearance of cargo, a release yesterday from the Association stated.

The meeting, which was held on Friday, January 30, in the boardroom of the Guyana Revenue Authority, Camp Street, Georgetown, was jointly chaired by Comptroller, Customs, Excise Trade & Operations, Rohan Beekhoo, and President, Guyana Customshouse Brokers & Clerks Association, Colin Moore.

According to the release, the engagement saw productive discussion on items such as: 1) extending the advance reporting of import vessels; 2) advance registration of inward manifests; 3) additional training for customshouse brokers; 4) grading of customshouse brokers; 5) processing time for customs declarations; 6) examination of cargo at wharves/port facilities; and 7) standardisation of customshouse brokers fees.

The meeting concluded on a positive note with an agreement for both parties to meet at least biannually to review and enhance measures for the facilitation of trade, the release added.
