Technology secured a 33-24 victory over Shabazz in Newark, led by Yoheilis Espada’s team-high 15 points.
Espada was efficient on the court, converting six two-pointers and going 3-of-3 from the free throw line to pace Technology (7-11). Saniyah Mclaren contributed a near double-double with 9 points and 10 rebounds, while also adding 5 assists, 2 block, and 5 steals in a standout all-around performance.
After a 9-9 tie in the first quarter, Technology (3-5 SEC) gradually pulled away, outscoring Shabazz (5-8) in each of the final three periods. The third quarter proved decisive as Technology built a 24-16 lead with a 9-3 advantage in the frame.
Melid Moran controlled the glass with 7 rebounds and added 3 blocks for Technology, while Moidelyn Aquino contributed 8 rebounds. The team’s defensive effort was impressive, recording 17 steals and 8 blocks overall.
Technology hosts Golda Och at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 5. Shabazz hosts Orange at 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 5.
